Chef Pete Coenen x Skeleton Key Brewery

Chef Pete Coenen collaborated with Skeleton Key Brewery on a beer they’ve named ‘Petal Pusher,’ a summer wheat ale brewed with wild rose petals. It’s an easy drinker, refreshing, with a light, floral nose.

Making its debut at the Chicago Ale Fest (happening Friday, June 1, and Saturday June 2 in Grant Park), ‘Petal Pusher’ features dried rose petals sourced by Chef Pete from Rare Tea Cellar. Pete joined the Skeleton Key team to develop and brew the beer, made with summer in mind.

You can also catch a ‘Petal Pusher’ at Cherry Circle Room, Game Room, and Lonesome Rose, where it’s currently on tap.

You can now get Chef Fred Noinaj’s tasty menu of island-inspired dishes delivered to your couch!

Yep — Lost Lake’s food menu is now available exclusively on Caviar.

That means every time you get a hankering for Ranguni (aka every night) but just can’t seem to change out of your pajamas (again, every night), a very nice person will bring it to you, piping hot and ready to be devoured.

Dreams coming true.

Did you see? The LSD Art Dept. just launched the third edition of the Lonesome Rose T-Shirt Club! “Rise and Shine” by Burt Sasso of GENTLEMAN is available on the LSD megastore now. We recently sat down with Bart Sasso to chat about the design.

What’s up with GENTLEMAN?
GENTLEMAN is a creative agency I started with another designer friend of mine, Roy Fleeman. We focus on branding and identity but do a little bit of everything. We are, most importantly, for hire.

What’s your studio look like?
My wife and I just brought home a new baby boy, so the room I used to work out of in our condo looks more like a nursery than a studio right now. I’m kind of a nomad these days: Coffee shops, Ticonderoga Club during the day, Mi Barrio, the Mexican restaurant next door to my place.

How’s been being a part of Ticonderoga Club been?
It’s been an amazing experience. My partners and I, all industry veterans, set out to create something very specific with Ticonderoga Club. Built from so many memories, we aimed to create a place that at once feels a little unhinged and exhilarating, but also extremely comfortable and familiar: Like when you’re a kid and your crazy uncle watches you for the day and he takes you to a townie bar to watch a ballgame and it feels a little scary… but you also love every second of it. Two and a half years in, I’m proud to say it’s become so much more. We take hospitality very seriously and seeing the ripple effect it can create is inspiring.

First design-related gig?
First real compensated gig was designing flyers for punk shows around Atlanta when I was in high school in exchange for guest list for me and my friends. RIP The Point.

Most underrated Atlanta band/artist/rapper?
Our bud Philip’s band OMNI is excellent. They’ve gotten a bit of national buzz, but deserve more. And I’m really into the new Trouble / Mike WiLL Made-It album Edgewood. It just sounds like Atlanta right now. And my buddy Diwang Valdez did photography for the album.

Fav atlanta hotspots?
I kind of veer away from the new hotspots and tend to prefer old standbys. If I’m out with friends, chances are I’m at The Local, Righteous Room, Manuel’s or Bookhouse Pub. The wife and I love Sotto Sotto for dinner because it’s old school and quiet and perfect. Oh, and the Victory guys are friends – their places are always a great time.

Usual Taco Bell order?
I used to fuss with more extravagant menu items, but my wife really brought me around to the elegant simplicity of the bean burrito. We even went as far as dialing in an at-home version and now always keep the supplies in the pantry.

Dream vanity plate?
I’ve never considered a vanity plate… BENICE maybe? Atlanta traffic drives people to insanity.

Shoutout to:
Drew Ryan and Jesse Brown. I love their work and I’m honored to be featured in the same series as them. And always, shoutout to the haters. ✌️

Joey Garfield

We’re excited to work with artist Joey Garfield on an installation in the Drawing Room of the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. Drifters will be in the case through May 30.

Drift : /drift/ • verb 1: to be carried slowly by a current of air or water 2: To flow or wander gradually. Synonym bob, float, meander. 3: Phrase used for understanding the general meaning and intention of a remark –Drifter: /drif-ter/ • noun 1: a derelict.

Garfield’s work honors both the wheel and wood. Growing up during the heyday of skateboard culture, he binds new, vintage, and handmade wheels and trucks with unique wood pieces from nature. All together, the wood, wheels and trucks create a new Minimalist form that is both grounded and uplifting.

Join us in the Drawing Room on Thursday, May 24 from 6-8p for an opening reception and artist talk with Joey Garfield. There will be food and drinks available for purchase. Come check out the installation and hear about Garfield’s work!

The LSD Art Dept. is excited to launch the third installment of the Lonesome Rose T-Shirt Club — “Rise and Shine” 003.

The design (which looks best paired with breakfast tacos) comes from Bart Sasso, partner in Gentleman Design & Works, a creative agency responsible for some of our favorite brand identities.

This edition is a one time run—no reprints. The last tee shirt club sold out in a day (!), so make sure you grab your shirt before it’s too late. It’s available at Lonesome Rose or on the LSD webstore.

Join the club—rise and shine with Lonesome Rose.

Zero Waste Brunch!
R-R_Brunch-980x980.png

Our friends at NYC-based creative agency RADUNO are throwing a big brunch party during the upcoming James Beard Award weekend. They’re bringing together a community of chefs, farmers, distributors and makers to celebrate food and to inspire conversation about getting creative with food waste! Chefs and bartenders (including our very own Paul McGee!) will be creating brunch dishes and cocktails out of food that would otherwise be wasted from James Beard events over the weekend.

All food and drinks are included for $45 (what a deal!) – and all profits will go to Family Farmed, a non-profit organization committed to expanding the production, marketing and distribution of locally grown and responsibly produced food, in order to enhance the social, economic, and environmental health of our communities.

Grab your ticket here, and see you then!

Robert Simonson included Golden Teardrop’s Alaska cocktail in a piece for the New York Times. The Alaska is a cousin to the martini – both use gin, but the Alaska trades dry vermouth for yellow Chartreuse. It also just so happens to be one of the eight cocktails on the menu in Golden Teardrops! Check it out.

Earth Day 2018: Protect This Land
2018-2.png

The Garfield Park Conservatory AllianceLand and Sea Dept., and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) are excited to partner on our annual Earth Day celebration, held on April 26 at the beautiful Garfield Park Conservatory.

Since last inauguration day, much of the NRDC’s work has been litigation based — suing the president and his administration on behalf of Americans when the country’s core environmental laws are in danger. One piece of that is the attempt to shrink public lands and national parks to open them up to development.

Earth Day: Protect This Land will act as a call to action, a fundraiser, and a good old fashioned party, all in the name of reclaiming our country’s green space.

Profits from ticket sales will be split between the NRDC and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, helping them continue their important work protecting the nation’s public parks (which belong to all of us).

Indiana’s Kevin Krauter (Hoops) will kick off the evening with a live set. Most recently, the Muncie-based singer songwriter opened for Whitney at their Valentine’s Day show at Thalia Hall. He’ll bring a full band in for his performance in the Conservatory’s plant-filled Horticulture Hall.

Chicago’s own Malcolm London will take the stage following Kevin Krauter. Called the Gil Scott-Heron of this generation by Cornel West, Malcolm London is an internationally recognized Chicago poet, activist, educator and musician.

DJ Jill Hopkins (host of Vocalo’sThe Morning AMp) will close out the night with a star-lit dance party under Hortifulture Hall’s glass tiled roof.

The entire evening will be hosted by Chicago-based comedian Tien Tran (Second City Mainstage ensemble member).

The NRDC will have information and simple action items available for guests interested in fighting the administrations’ attacks on our national parks.

Land and Sea Dept. beverage director Paul McGee will create a menu of cocktails for the evening, available alongside a selection of biodynamic and organic wines from Cream Wine Company, and beer from Laguinitas, a local member of the NRDC’s Brewers for Clean Water campaign. Protect This Land will be a zero-waste event.

In addition to general admission tickets, there will be a limited number of VIP tickets available. VIP tickets include five drinks per ticketholder as well as a super special tote bag takeaway.

Drink tickets for general admission guests (or VIP ticketholders beyond the five drinks included) must be purchased via Ticketfly in advance of the event.

All tickets are available to purchase on Ticketfly now.

We hope to see you there on the 26th!
