On March 28, in honor of International Women's Day and Women's History Month, join Land and Sea Dept. for SHE/HER/HERS, a showcase celebrating the best of Chicago’s women, femme, and non-binary performers, makers, movers, and shakers.

Tickets will be available for a suggested donation of $10. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Working on Womanhood (WoW), a Chicago-based group whose mission is to improve social-emotional competencies for girls in 7th-12th grade exposed to traumatic stressors in high risk and under-resourced communities, through a multifaceted, school year-long group counseling and clinical mentoring program.
RSVP will run through HouseofVans.com, and will be open soon — stay tuned. In the meantime, save the date and get excited! It's gonna be a party to remember.

Land and Sea Dept. collaborated with Hopewell Brewing on a custom beer!
Bar teams from Parson’s Chicken & Fish, Longman & Eagle, and Game Room (Charlie Schott, Tony Correale, and Dave Thompson, respectively), headed to Hopewell to collaborate with their team (owners Stephen Bossu, Samantha Lee, and Jonathan Fritz) on the beer, which is a summertime crusher (no surprises there), which packs the big punch of Ekuanot and Dr. Rudi hops in a low-key Pale Ale form. With stone fruit and pine at the core, a soft body and balanced bitterness tether its eccentric side.
The can was custom designed by the LSD Art Dept., and it’s rolling out this week at Parson’s, Longman & Eagle, Game Room, Lonesome Rose, and Hopewell’s tap room.
To celebrate, we’re having a beer crawl this Friday, June 29! We’ll start at Game Room around 2pm and trolley our way through Logan, with stops at Parson’s, Longman, and ending at Hopewell. Reserve your spot here with a $5 donation to Howard Brown Health.
The Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel, Johalla Projects and Land and Sea Dept. are excited to collaborate on Dear Carmencita, a pop-up bar experience celebrating the Art Institute’s forthcoming exhibition, John Singer Sargent and Chicago’s Gilded Age.
Stay tuned for additonal details!
Join Emily Katz, author of Modern Macrame, for a wall hanging workshop at Land and Sea Dept. on Friday, July 20!
In the class, Emily will demonstrate a handful of her favorite knotting techniques, and show you how to get started on your wall hanging. You will design and create your own macramé wall hanging with Emily’s expert guidance and support. All the materials you need to complete your unique piece of art will be provided, and each participant also will receive a curated gift bag full of special goodies.
Grab your tickets and find out more info here!
Two LSD spots got some UK love in The Guardian’s recent guide to Chicago. Parson’s Chicken and Fish and Longman & Eagle were both included in their feature on places to eat, drink and stay in the city. Read the rest of their guide here, and to our LSD fans across the pond: It’s time to start planning your summer vacation…
The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, Land and Sea Dept., and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) are excited to partner on our annual Earth Day celebration, held on April 26 at the beautiful Garfield Park Conservatory.
Since last inauguration day, much of the NRDC’s work has been litigation based — suing the president and his administration on behalf of Americans when the country’s core environmental laws are in danger. One piece of that is the attempt to shrink public lands and national parks to open them up to development.
Earth Day: Protect This Land will act as a call to action, a fundraiser, and a good old fashioned party, all in the name of reclaiming our country’s green space.
Profits from ticket sales will be split between the NRDC and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, helping them continue their important work protecting the nation’s public parks (which belong to all of us).
Indiana’s Kevin Krauter (Hoops) will kick off the evening with a live set. Most recently, the Muncie-based singer songwriter opened for Whitney at their Valentine’s Day show at Thalia Hall. He’ll bring a full band in for his performance in the Conservatory’s plant-filled Horticulture Hall.
Chicago’s own Malcolm London will take the stage following Kevin Krauter. Called the Gil Scott-Heron of this generation by Cornel West, Malcolm London is an internationally recognized Chicago poet, activist, educator and musician.
DJ Jill Hopkins (host of Vocalo’sThe Morning AMp) will close out the night with a star-lit dance party under Hortifulture Hall’s glass tiled roof.
The entire evening will be hosted by Chicago-based comedian Tien Tran (Second City Mainstage ensemble member).
The NRDC will have information and simple action items available for guests interested in fighting the administrations’ attacks on our national parks.
Land and Sea Dept. beverage director Paul McGee will create a menu of cocktails for the evening, available alongside a selection of biodynamic and organic wines from Cream Wine Company, and beer from Laguinitas, a local member of the NRDC’s Brewers for Clean Water campaign. Protect This Land will be a zero-waste event.
In addition to general admission tickets, there will be a limited number of VIP tickets available. VIP tickets include five drinks per ticketholder as well as a super special tote bag takeaway.
Drink tickets for general admission guests (or VIP ticketholders beyond the five drinks included) must be purchased via Ticketfly in advance of the event.
All tickets are available to purchase on Ticketfly now.
We hope to see you there on the 26th!
Longman & Eagle has got one for the lovers on Valentine’s Day this year. The neighborhood-favorite’s culinary team has dreamed up an entire evening of romance-forward menus. First, at 5:30, guests can enjoy a 3-course prix fixe dinner for $55 per person. Guests can choose from seared scallops, crispy duck breast, or confit pork belly for their entree plus a starter and dessert. Then they’ll offer a 5-course tasting dinner at 7:00 and 9:30, for $85 per person. Courses include oyster shooters, grilled endive with foie gras mousse, seared scallops, crispy duck breast, and dark chocolate cheesecake for dessert. All dinners will offer optional whiskey and wine pairings. Guests can book here.
Milk Room will be offering a very special Valentine’s Day experience on February 14 for those looking to celebrate with an elegant evening of rare and vintage spirits. Couples will be greeted with a welcome cocktail built for two (served in a coconut!) alongside a shellfish tower, followed by a choice of two cocktails from a special menu designed by Paul McGee, including the Rusty Nail (A. Dewar Rattray Glen Grant 15 Year Scotch, 1960s Drambui) and the Airmail (Real McCoy 12 Year Barbados Rum, Thistle Honey, Krug Grand Cuvée Champagne), among many others. Guests will also be served grilled Gruyere and Jamon Iberico tea sandwiches to accompany their drinks, along with a shared chocolate dessert and departing cocktail. Reservations are $200 per person, with seatings available at 5:00, 7:30 and 10:00. Guests can book via Tock.
Cherry Circle Room will be offering some delectable a la carte specials on Valentine’s Day this year. We’ll be serving Escargot Rockefeller with bacon, kale, and Pernod ($18), and a whole roasted chicken for two, served tableside with Brussels sprouts and Black Truffle ($100) – which includes a chicken pot pie! The dessert cart will be going around with pastries and chocolates from Pastry Chef Kristine Antonian. There will be optional wine pairings and a special sparkling cocktail from Paul McGee, the Le Perroquet (Gin, Campari, Tangerine, Cava) available all-night long. Reservations can be made via OpenTable.
And finally, Parson’s Chicken & Fish has got all the single homies covered this year! Chef Hunter Moore will be serving up a special saucey Chicken Parmesan sandwich, and the annual favorite Lonely Guy Special (PBR & 3 oz whiskey for $5) will be available — plus $5 slushies all night.
Letherbee moved into a sweet new distillery, and they’re having a party to celebrate! It’s happening in tandem with a big art show presented by their new building, Workshop 4200. As a LSD-related bonus, Drew Ryan (the person responsible for those great looking seasonal gin labels) will be showing some new artwork in the Letherbee space.
It will be fun — RSVP to info@letherbee.com. At the door, just let them know you’re there for Letherbee.

Land and Sea Dept. is excited to present Swedish rock band Dungen performing their new album, Häxan, at the beautiful Garfield Park Conservatory on Sunday, March 19.
The band will be performing the original score they were asked to create to Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 touchstone The Adventures of Prince Achmed, understood to be the oldest surviving full-length animated feature film. Inspired by the nature of the work and the characters portrayed within, the members of Dungen collaborated on themes to represent their take on the film’s narrative, and immersed themselves in the groundbreaking visual language of this landmark film. The result is Häxan, the group’s first instrumental album.
This is sure to be a memorable night—grab your tickets here.
The Garfield Park Conservatory, Land and Sea Dept., and NRDC present
Earth Day 2017: The “NOT A HOAX” Party
April 22 at the Garfield Park Conservatory
VIP Cocktail Hour 6-7pm, General Admission 7-10pm
The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, Land and Sea Dept., and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) are excited to partner on a special Earth Day celebration, held on April 22, at the Garfield Park Conservatory.
While last year’s sold out Earth Day party highlighted preserving our environment’s pollinators, this year’s event – Not a Hoax – will focus on climate change. The party will feature drinks, food and music curated by Land and Sea Dept., alongside environmental programming from NRDC.
A fundraiser and a call to action, the event seeks to raise awareness about a suite of environmental protections under attack by the new administration, and aims to harness the energy and passion of the public to pressure lawmakers into recognizing climate change as a serious and real problem.
Proceeds from tickets and a portion of bar sales will help NRDC and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance continue their vital work protecting the environment.
“This is the 47th year that the world will celebrate Earth Day. We’re more determined than ever to make sure our country’s 45th President does not thwart the incredible progress we’ve made to combat climate change internationally, nationally and locally.” said Elizabeth Corr, Manager of Art Partnerships & Events at NRDC.
Chicago-based Air Credits (a collaboration of The Hood Internet and ShowYouSuck) will be performing during the party, with opening sets by local favorites Sidewalk Chalk and DJ Audio Jack.
Chef Abra Berens of Local Foods will be creating a menu of Earth Day-oriented bites for a special VIP hour (6-7pm). Minimizing food waste and supporting the planet are both very important in Chef Abra’s day-to-day work, and those values will surely be reflected in the VIP hour offerings.
The VIP hour will also include cocktails by Land and Sea Dept. beverage director Paul McGee featuring Corazon Tequila, as well as bio-dynamic wines selected by LSD wine director Andrew Algren and beer from Lagunitas, a local member of the NRDC’s Brewers for Clean Water campaign.
As an added bonus, Chicago’s bike share program, Divvy, will be offering a free 24-hour pass to the first 75 ticket purchasers.
Wine, beer, and cocktails will also be available during the general admission portion of the night. Please purchase drink tickets in advance of attending – they are available HERE.
VIP hour tickets are $100 and general admission tickets are $25. Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 28, at noon, and are available to purchase HERE.
This winter, do your holiday shopping with LSD. We’re throwing a little pop-up market with our favorite local businesses, makers, and artists.
Parson’s Chicken and Fish Chef Hunter Moore & bar manager Charlie Schott will be slinging eats and drinks all night, we’ll have Longman & Eagle sweet treats on offer, beer from Hopewell Brewing and DJs all night — plus a bunch more good cheer and festive fun.
A portion of proceeds from Land and Sea Dept.’s food and beverage sales will be donated to Christopher House’s holiday program to help ensure that the Chicago children and their families have a joyful holiday season.
Hope you can make it.
For the final installment of 2016’s From Good Stock supper club, Land and Sea Dept. is excited to welcome Chef Ryan Poli and beverage director Matt Poli of Nashville’s acclaimed The Catbird Seat on Saturday, December 3, at 7pm.
Ryan will be preparing a three-course, Roman-style feast, including handmade rigatoni, gnocchi, steak, tiramisu and much more. Matt will be creating a welcome cocktail for guests and has tapped Scarpetta Wine as our wine partner for the dinner. Accompanying this festive spread will be beautiful florals from Fleur and a soundtrack of funk and Italo-disco tunes.
Given The Catbird Seat’s extremely limited seating and availability, this is a rare chance to experience Chef Ryan Poli’s cooking in a family style supper cub format. Tickets are $75 and available here - they include food, beverage, and gratuity.
The Catbird Seat, which opened in 2011 as a creative incubator, is an intimate, interactive chef-run experience. With just 22 seats around an open kitchen, guests have the opportunity to watch the chefs prepare dishes for the ever-evolving tasting menu. Known for its avant-garde dishes, The Catbird Seat is a highly-sought-after reservation. Chef Ryan Poli, a Chicago native, has helmed The Catbird Seat kitchen since January 2016. Poli’s experience ranges from some of the world’s most celebrated kitchens, including several Chicago favorites, as well as extensive travel throughout Spain, France, and Asia.
