Longman & Eagle x Virtue Cider: Garage Core Launch
LE-virtue-event2-980x980.png

This spring, Longman & Eagle’s bar team took a trip to Fennville, MI, the home of Virtue Cider, to discover and blend ciders that brought back memories of bands that never existed (but should have!). The resulting brew is a natural, unfiltered, uncarbonated cider that’s both a ‘lil funky and a ‘lil tart. Lower your glass, fill it up from a distance with extended arms, then raise it back up and cheers with us to L&E’s new beloved collaboration with Virtue —  Garage Core!

Come celebrate and try the cider on Sunday, June 4 at L&E’s OSB. From 1-4p, we’ll have Garage Core on tap, cider-adjacent cocktails, garage rock from DJ Johnny Walker, and a special menu of snacks from Chef Joshua Mutchnick (L&E) and Chef Missy Corey (Virtue).

The Garfield Park Conservatory, Land and Sea Dept., and NRDC present

Earth Day 2017: The “NOT A HOAX” Party

April 22 at the Garfield Park Conservatory

VIP Cocktail Hour 6-7pm, General Admission 7-10pm

The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, Land and Sea Dept., and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) are excited to partner on a special Earth Day celebration, held on April 22, at the Garfield Park Conservatory.

While last year’s sold out Earth Day party highlighted preserving our environment’s pollinators, this year’s event – Not a Hoax – will focus on climate change. The party will feature drinks, food and music curated by Land and Sea Dept., alongside environmental programming from NRDC.

A fundraiser and a call to action, the event seeks to raise awareness about a suite of environmental protections under attack by the new administration, and aims to harness the energy and passion of the public to pressure lawmakers into recognizing climate change as a serious and real problem.

Proceeds from tickets and a portion of bar sales will help NRDC and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance continue their vital work protecting the environment.

“This is the 47th year that the world will celebrate Earth Day. We’re more determined than ever to make sure our country’s 45th President does not thwart the incredible progress we’ve made to combat climate change internationally, nationally and locally.” said Elizabeth Corr, Manager of Art Partnerships & Events at NRDC.

Chicago-based Air Credits (a collaboration of The Hood Internet and ShowYouSuck) will be performing during the party, with opening sets by local favorites Sidewalk Chalk and DJ Audio Jack.

Chef Abra Berens of Local Foods will be creating a menu of Earth Day-oriented bites for a special VIP hour (6-7pm). Minimizing food waste and supporting the planet are both very important in Chef Abra’s day-to-day work, and those values will surely be reflected in the VIP hour offerings.

The VIP hour will also include cocktails by Land and Sea Dept. beverage director Paul McGee featuring Corazon Tequila, as well as bio-dynamic wines selected by LSD wine director Andrew Algren and beer from Lagunitas, a local member of the NRDC’s Brewers for Clean Water campaign.

As an added bonus, Chicago’s bike share program, Divvy, will be offering a free 24-hour pass to the first 75 ticket purchasers.

Wine, beer, and cocktails will also be available during the general admission portion of the night. Please purchase drink tickets in advance of attending – they are available HERE.

VIP hour tickets are $100 and general admission tickets are $25. Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 28, at noon, and are available to purchase HERE.

Backroom Wrap-up

We just wrapped up The Backroom, our pop-up bar with The Field Museum, Johanna Projects and the Chicago Athletic Association. It was a busy month; over the course of The Backroom, we dug up dinosaurs, pressed plants, pinned butterflies, put together fish skeletons and more with experts from The Field, jammed with our favorite DJs and artists.

Huge thanks to everyone who worked with us on this project and all the guests who enjoyed it – it was a good one!

Dungen at Garfield Park Conservatory

Land and Sea Dept. is excited to present Swedish rock band Dungen performing their new album, Häxan, at the beautiful Garfield Park Conservatory on Sunday, March 19.

The band will be performing the original score they were asked to create to Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 touchstone The Adventures of Prince Achmed, understood to be the oldest surviving full-length animated feature film. Inspired by the nature of the work and the characters portrayed within, the members of Dungen collaborated on themes to represent their take on the film’s narrative, and immersed themselves in the groundbreaking visual language of this landmark film. The result is Häxan, the group’s first instrumental album.

This is sure to be a memorable night—grab your tickets here.
