2015_01_13_CAA_0902.jpg_small.JPG

On September 22, Milk Room is coming to Longman & Eagle! While the tiny rare spirits bar in the Chicago Athletic Association is temporarily closed due to Covid-19, the crew at Longman is having them over for a multi-course tasting event, exploring both establishments' deep shelves of vintage and hard-to-find bottles.

Guests will be greeted with a welcome cocktail, followed by two rare pours from Longman & Eagle's collection, each paired with high-end bites from Longman's culinary team, as well as a dessert course featuring a digestif and a bite.  Additional cocktails will be available from a special a la carte menu of Milk Room and Longman & Eagle cocktails (Longman & Eagle's full dinner menu will be available as well).

Tickets for this collaborative experience are $86 per person (not including tax or gratuity) - book via Resy. We hope you can join us!

Please note: If there is a forecast of rain for Tuesday, September 22, this event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, September 23. If it begins to rain during the event, all remaining food and whiskey courses will be packaged for guests to enjoy at home. Reservations will be limited to 90 minutes per Covid-19 restrictions. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate dietary restrictions or substitution requests.

Our friends at Vans are helping us out during this crisis. Our art director Drew Ryan designed a pair of custom shoes - the net proceeds from every pair sold will go to us, to help our employees out and make sure we can open the doors to our spaces after this passes. A Big thanks to Vans for launching this project to help out small business in these tough times.

Chicago Hospitality United
Black-Back-Fincopy_900x.png

Our friends at Stock Mfg and Leisure Activities put together this great fundraiser for Chicagos hospitality industry. Check it out (and support it) HERE.

COVID-19 has affected all of us, but few more directly than our friends in the hospitality industry. The (certainly understandable) government shut-down on bars and restaurants has put thousands of our friends and family out of work for the foreseeable future. Just as we rely on them to keep Chicago one of the most vibrant dining cities in the world, they rely on us to support them through good times and bad. 100% of the net proceeds from this product will go directly toward financial relief for employees affected by this unfortunate circumstance. We'll make it through this, but only together. Thanks for your support.

10 Years of Longman & Eagle
10-year-email.jpg

This January marks Longman & Eagle’s tenth anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, the Longman team will be revisiting some of their favorite dishes and drinks from throughout the last decade. For the last ten days of the month, head to Longman for a special menu featuring three dishes and three cocktails from the Longman archive of greatest hits, taking us way back through the years all the way to founding chef Jared Wentworth. The special menu will be available for dinner daily (in addition to the full menu) from January 23 through February 1.

Then, in true Longman fashion, we’ll host a blow out Monday night party, open to the community. On Monday, February 3. From 5-8p, join the L&E team for bites, drinks, and music, and let us say thanks for ten years of good times in Logan Square. Some familiar faces will be back to tend bar (stay tuned for the lineup!) and we’ll welcome the next ten years of Longman & Eagle with a party to remember. Interview with Eliza Weber - Lonesome Rose T-Shirt Club 006

Every so often, we’ll ask one of our favorite artists to design a limited run of t-shirts for the Lonesome Rose T-Shirt Club. For the 6th installment, we have Eliza Weber from the band Glyders. Our art director Drew Ryan did an email interview with Eliza, you can read it below and pick up a shirt from Lonesome Rose or our web store.

Hey Eliza what's good?
Hey Drew ! Life is pretty good right now.

You're a musician too—where do you rehearse and create visual art? Are these separate workspaces?
Yes, although they are both in my & Josh's home aka the juicy lagoon. Visual art upstairs in my office, music downstairs in the basement.

Do you have any photos of your workspace/studio?
Be warned my office is also my closet & it's not exactly neat....

Where ya from? When did you move to Chicago?
Born in Chicago, grew up in Evanston, went to school in NYC, moved back to Chicago in 2013.

Your design work comes from a place of necessity—you started making flyers and graphics because you had to tell people about your shows, not because you are a design student or a professional looking for more opportunities. What was the first design-related job or project you did that wasn't for your own band?
Hard to remember..... I think most likely it was a flier for Dumpster Tapes, or maybe The Bingers. Back then I charged $20 for fliers haha.

I love when designers stray away from industry-standard programs to create their work. I remember you telling me about this online graphics editor that you use on occasion. Can you elaborate?
That would be pixlr.com, a web-based photo editor. It's basically dollar-store photoshop. When I first started making fliers I didn't have a real computer, just a Chromebook. I would use Pixlr on the computers at the bike shop where I was working. I eventually got a laptop and Adobe programs and haven't used it since. Kind of can't believe I used it for as long as I did. Maybe I'll fire it up again one of these days.....

24.png

Got anything you're working on that you're excited about?
Just finished up a shirt for Trouble in Mind records that I'm really stoked to share. I've been a fan of that label for awhile so it was an honor to work on. It was also my first chance to do a crazy maximal design with front, back & sleeves and it's gonna be printed in four colors!

You're at Taco Bell and you've got $2—what do you order?
I'd scour the floor of the van for change until I scrape together enough for a crunchwrap, sub beans for beef.

Got any favorite designers or illustrators on your radar?
Oh man, so many and most of them right here in Chicago. I started following Josef Minor this year and am obsessed with his work. Also Clare Byrne, Bill Connors, David Strother, Crystal Zapata, Ben Marcus, Jacob Gardener, Drew Ryan (no bull!)....

10.jpg

Favorite Glyders show? Worst Glyders show?
Could never choose a favorite, but playing with Fred & Toody of Dead Moon at the bottle is up there for sure. Worst would have to be Be Here Now in Muncie, Indiana when I had the flu and locked the keys in the van.

What's the sketchiest place you've slept while on tour?
An old military prison cell in Prague.

Shoutout to:
Josh, all the homies, Mother Earth
