In late 2015, Land and Sea Dept. was asked to coordinate and produce a fundraiser for the nationally syndicated music-based radio show Sound Opinions, featuring Chicago critics and writers Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot, a dinner that would be inspired by and feature musician Neko Case.

The event, held in the restored gymnasium at the Chicago Athletic Association, pulled together some of Chicago’s finest culinary talents to create a seven course tasting menu of dishes inspired by albums or songs by Case.

Participants included Pete Coenen (Cherry Circle Room), Jason Hammel and Sarah Rinkavage (Lula Café), Allie and Rob Levitt (The Butcher & Larder), Matthias Merges (A10Billy SundayYusho), Leigh Omilinsky (Nico Osteria), Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate) and Illiana Regan (Elizabeth).

The event sold out quickly, and proceeds from it were donated to local NPR affiliate WBEZ to help with the continued support and underwriting of the Sound Opinions program.
