0018 Body / Head @ The Museum Of Contemporary Art

Art Direct / Design / Produce

Here we were approached to present the Chicago debut of Body / Head, a musical duo featuring bassist and vocalist Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) and otherworldly guitarist Bill Nace. We felt, given the work and the addition of planned visual accompaniment, that the Museum of Contemporary Art was the obvious choice for our exhibition venue. The addition of openers GATE, featuring Tom Carter and Michael Morley, just thrilled us further. The performance sold out quickly.

From the start, we wanted to build in some visual art element particular to the event, and ultimately settled in on a sculptural component that would then continue to inform the visual aesthetics thereafter. We created a design template that was then printed onto wood blocks cut in our wood shop, six-sided screened pieces that gave us our sculptural base.

These were then assembled, disassembled and photographed, images that were used variously for promotional GIFs, hand screened promotional posters and the like. A limited number of editioned sculptural blocks were available for purchase at the show proper (which sold out immediately), as were a handful of the screened prints.
